Searching for Happiness – PT4: Supporting your Spirit

Hi there, it is me again. It is week four of this new super cool  Searching for Happiness series and now we are getting into the deep bits. Today’s post is all about the spirit. No not the holy spirit or the one in your basement, the cool kind, the fun kind. Is it just me or do people tend to look at you like you are a weirdo hippy, a nonmodern idiot or a judgmental hypocrite when you talk about religion or spirituality anymore? Ok, that may be a little dramatic. However, I do kind of feel like spirituality has gotten a bad rap somehow outside of certain circles. Regardless of your beliefs or even opinions, I am here to tell you that you NEED spirituality in your life, and maybe you can have it in ways your did not think were even possible. Here is my own personal list of supporting my spirit. I hope you can try out a few for yourself, who knows you might be more of a weirdo hippy spiritual person than you realized.   Meditate: I have raved about the benefits of meditation many times on my blog but I will not stop. I WILL NOT STOP YOUR HEAR ME. It can and will single handily change your life. As a result, it is, in my opinion, the best advice of this entire series. If you are interested in learning a bit more on meditation check out this post 4 Books…

Searching for Happiness – Part 3: Healthy Relationships

Welcome back, and to part three of this new series. Today I will be talking about healthy relationships. Because basically, I am an expert on those matters. Kidding. I am but a normal gal who is trying to find what works. So I wrote out this master list, a nonexpert normal person list about how to have healthy relationships. I hope you can find some honest and useful takeaways from this post. Cheers! Make date night a priority: Even if you can only squeeze it in once a month, it is important to spend quality time with your sweetums. Check out this post for some ideas. 17 Cheap Fall Date Ideas Share your true feelings: If someone has done something to upset you, hurt you or even make you feel happy and loved, don’t wait for the perfect time to tell them, tell them right away. You may not get another chance. Spend time with your parents: That’s right. Even if they drive you crazy sometimes, spend time with them doing things that you all enjoy togeather with no expectations. Say thank you: To everyone! Your friends, co-workers, parents, your spouse, the random person holding the door for you, even say it to yourself. Get it on: For obvious reasons. Know what I mean? Let it go: Holding onto pointless crap only further depletes you. I write more about that in Searching for Happiness- The Poison of Resentment. Call your mom, just because: My mom…

The Book Lovers Tag

Hello, everyone! I have been seeing this tag post pop up everywhere lately and I thought I would give it a go. Why you may ask? Well because if there is one thing I like almost as much as reading it’s writing. So why not write about reading. You feel me?   Do you have a specific place for reading? My favorite place to read is in the cabin, with little distraction I can read a book in one weekend if it is chilly outside. So peaceful. Bookmarks or random pieces of paper? Bookmarks.  I have a few books I read on and off so I like to have them all marked for future reading. Can you just stop anywhere or must it be at the end of the chapter? I usually like to keep going until the end of the Chapter but if something comes up or I start to doze off, then anywhere is fine. Do you eat or drink while reading? Tea! Nothing goes better with a good book than a good cup of green tea. Music or TV while reading? I prefer to read in silence but music is also good. TV is too much of a distraction. One book at a time or several? I often have several going at a time. However, there is usually one main. Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere? I like to read at home, the cabin, coffee shops, or the park to name a few…

June Goals

It is finally June! Can you believe it? I am so ready for summer to come, it was a terrible winter here in Newfoundland and a terrible spring so I am trying to be super happy and optimistic that this summer will make up for it all. Come on weather gods, I need the sunshine! Anyway moving along,  I was going to change this post up a bit but I have decided to keep it simple with a short list of goals for the coming month. Before we get into my goals for the month of June why not have a peek at how May went? May Goals Stick to a schedule: My planner has literally been saving my life. If anyone is interested in a plan with me post lemmie know! Read at least one book: I literally flew through The Rome Affair. I Highly recommend as a summer read. Be active at least 4 times a week: Almost but not quite! I managed to work in a total of 13 workouts this month. Super exact I know. Eat SUPER healthy: This is still a work in progress so I can’t give myself this one quite yet. No shopping month: Yea this didn’t happen. Do one thing out of my comfort zone: It’s not that I didn’t want to it just seemed like nothing came up. Spend lots of time in nature: I spent as much time outdoors as mother nature…

Searching for Happiness – PT 1: Body Gentleness

I have been making some small changes lately that have been impacting my overall happiness in big ways. Naturally, I wanted to share them with all of you, so I poured up a cup of coffee and wrote my little heart out. I wrote a master list of everything that has been adding to my overall happiness and wellbeing until I could not think of anything else. I was surprised by how many things I came up with, my list ended up being pretty long with over 100 tips and tricks to be exact. After I wrote it all out I realized it would be a better idea to break out my ultimate list into a mini-series for an easier read. Up first is all about body gentleness! I have struggled with stress at various points in my life and with that stress came some unwanted effects on my body. Teeth grinding, IBS and headaches to name a few. Medicine and doctors orders didn’t work for me personally which is why I had to look for alternative options and through the combined impact of everything in this series, and especially because of the new special care I began taking of my body I was able to help my physical symptoms disappear. The result? I am less stressed, I am healthier and you guessed it happier. If you are feeling some odd physical symptoms it could be your mind or body trying to send you the message that…

Get to Know me Tag

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who sent me questions last week for this post. I was so shocked by the response and I am beyond excited to get answering these interesting, entertaining and thought-provoking questions. Are you ready to learn more about me? Buckle up… this is going to be a long one. About Writing How did you start Scale it Simple/your blog? I first thought about what kind of blog I wanted to create. After deciding I wasn’t really in it for the money I settled on a free WordPress account. I was nervous to start and had no idea what I wanted to write about. Until my aunt asked me to document her birthday one year where she performed random acts of kindness. I started there with my free WordPress account and the rest is history. What made you decide to begin blogging? I loved writing when I was younger. I would journal and write stories I had made up all the time, but as I got older I kind of lost my way. However, the passion was still there. I thought about blogging for awhile but I never saw myself as a blogger, (I still don’t) and I was very critical and self-conscious of other people knowing my thoughts and opinions. I finally began because I knew this was the best way to practice my passion and try something new. I had no idea…

Dear Bloggers, It’s not just about the money

Dear Bloggers, Is it just me or is the blogging world quickly becoming a bit of a get rich fast scheme? It seems to me that more often than necessary there are posts all about making money blogging, public income reports and how to earn money on posts. Bloggers boast about how they made $20,000 in their first month of blogging and other crazy declarations. It is reminding me of those insanely unrealistic diet ads that so many people fall for. I am sure for those who are actually cashing in it is helpful to have these references. However,  it leaves me wondering. Where has all the romance gone? Where is the legitimacy? Are there any real honest to goodness writers left out there at all? It seems the creative fun of blogging is being zapped into a superficial trendy money grab. Alright alright, put away the pitchforks, I get it, if I was raking in crazy page views every month like some of you talented people out there then yes I too would be more eager to learn from the “pros”. May I also add I think it is a wonderful gesture to share any knowledge you have about building your skills. So before I continue my rant, allow me to say thank you for sharing your information no matter what kind it is with the world. Seriously I am not a hater, and I love reading tips from my favorite bloggers. However, not those…
