Searching for Happiness – Self Love Books

“She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head,And whispered to her neighbor- -Winter is dead.” (7)I have been reading like a madwoman this year. My reading adventures have consisted of biographies, fiction, non-fiction, and self-help. One thing I have discovered on my reading adventures is that there are a lot of really, really bad self-help books out there. Seriously… In fact, it is no wonder why more people don’t read these types of books. Many can be overwhelming and unmotivating, leaving you feeling confused and discouraged.

Don’t let those bad books discourage you from gaining the benefits of the good self-help books that are out there! Reading books in the self-love and self-development categories have been my greatest discovery this year, and I have found a few that make up for the not so good advice lingering around out there.

When it comes to searching for happiness it all boils down to self-love, without loving yourself how can you love others? Or the world? How can we really express gratitude and acceptance if we can’t feel it towards ourselves? Some people struggle with this more than others and have to put in more work. Or maybe we are all drowning in a sea of self-confusion and doubt at times.

Regardless I am on the search for inner love of the highest degree, and this is the beginning of a long journey ahead. These particular books have been a great help for me on this winding path and as I discover self-love, I discover much happiness in the process.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

If you read no other book on this list I urge you to pick this one up. It is short, easy to read and powerfully to the point. While reading this book I was pleasantly surprised with how simple the ancient Toltec people made living and feeling seem. Transformation begins in adopting these four simple agreements into your life and identifying self-limiting beliefs that have been taught to us from a young age. I read this book in one weekend, so if you are looking to give yourself a little self-love boost this is a quick and easy place to start!

The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship

This is another book by the shamanic teacher and healer, Don Miguel Ruiz. I read this book before The Four Agreements, but honestly, the order does not matter. This book breaks down destructive ideas about love and relationships with others and with yourself. It is probably my favorite self-love book and has served the biggest benefit to me. Feel the love!

Mastering Your Mean Girl

Ladies listen up! This book is awesome! Melissa Ambrosini is a beautiful spirit, a warm and welcoming author, speaking about her early life as a dancer struggling with the pressure for success, the perfect body image, relationships, and friendships. She shares how she found her true passion as a life coach after hitting rock bottom and collects all of her best advice into this book to help all hopeful ladies silence their inner mean girl and become the best them!

The UltraMind Solution

This is a book that I think is good for anyone, literally anyone. Not just those going through self-transformation, searching for happiness or self-love. This book looks at how what we ingest into our bodies, through what we eat actually affects the hormones and the genetic components of the brain. Linking processed foods, sugars and a poor diet to how your mind mentally reacts. It is fascinating to learn about the link between the body and the brain. And how you can take active steps to better your mind through your body. Stopping depression, autism, and many other mental disorders through a healthy diet, body, and mind. Powerful stuff!

Happiness can be found in changing your perspectives of yourself through self-love…

What better way to change your perspective and begin a journey to self-love than by picking up a book?Learn from someone who has been there and has the knowledge to help you get there. What are you waiting for?

Thanks for sharing these books! Indeed I’ve been also looking for this kind of books and some only made you feel worst! I’m currently reading “How to stop worrying and start leaving” by Dale Carnegie, it is a bit heavy but I’m enjoying some of the insights and also sometimes I need it to be more shocking so I can really absorb the messages.
