Hi there, welcome back!
Self-care is something I love to explore and write about. When I have time/need a pick me up I make a conscious effort the night before to start the next day in the best way possible.
Having a self-care morning routine can and will set up your day and spirit to be the best it can be. Starting the day with the intention to take care of yourself will go a long way. Often times it may be hard to find the time for myself during the work week or even the weekend and do all of these self-care things I like to do. However, I recently realized that all I need is one hour.
Just one-hour all for me in the morning time to help myself feel good all day long. That’s worth waking up early for, don’t ya think?
Check out my self-care morning routine here and start thinking about creating one of your own. Lots of love.
Wake up early: This allows me the time I need to give myself that little bit of extra self-care in the morning. For me waking up early means one hour before work as I have a short work commute and no kiddos.
(Do not check your phone). I am adding do not check your phone in here because as soon as you turn it on your brain is being subjected to thousands of images and ideas, negative and positive. It is not the most gentle way to start your day. So I like to give myself some time before checking my social media, email or texts.
Wash my face: I use the Pacifica Kale face wash which I love as it smells like fresh green things and then I like to dab on my Fresh deep hydration moisturizer which reminds me of
rose gardens. Lastly, while my imagination is filled with images of me frolicking in some remote exotic fancy place I put on some lip balm.
This mini skincare routine not only wakes me up, but it prepares me or a fresh new day by putting a smile on my face straight away. It’s almost like a mini spa treatment. Yay!
Make a coffee or tea: Having something warm and brewing it in the morning gives me that little bit of extra motivation to start my day. While my coffee is brewing I chug a full glass of cold water to hydrate myself.
Write in my gratitude journal: I use my The Five Minute Journal: A Happier You in 5 Minutes a Day but any journal will do. The way it works is you write three things that you are grateful for and three things you are looking forward to happening or doing that day (Things within your control). Writing in the journal is the perfect way to start the day with the right positive mindset. I usually drink my coffee while I write. So cozy.
Yoga time: I like to turn on a short Yoga with Adriene video on the old youtube. Doing yoga for even just 10 minutes in the morning is an awesome way to get everything loosened up and stretched out. Doing this has done wonders for my body, especially because I spend the majority of my day sitting.
Meditate: After yoga, I like to sit and meditate for at the very least 10 minutes. If you are new to meditation you can check out my book suggestions here. Sometimes I like to listen to a guided meditation which you can easily find on Youtube, and other times I just sit with my breath. This is an awesome spiritual practice to incorporate into your morning, and you will see wonderful long-term benefits if you can manage to make it a part of your daily life.
Breakfast time: I know many people like to eat as soon as they wake up, however, I just don’t feel hungry right away so I usually save the grub for after meditation. I often grab something light like cereal on the weekdays and if I am feeling particularly wild I may cut up some apples and make waffles on the weekend. Yum!
Turn on some music or youtube: I like to turn on some tunes or one of my favorite Youtubers as I get ready. It’s nice to have some background atmosphere going to get me pumped for the day.
Pick out my OOTD: Many people swear by picking out their outfit the night before, and although I must admit I usually have a good idea of what I want to wear before I shut my eyes, I usually have to wait for a little while before I know what kind of mood I am in. It is usually a good one after the first bit of my morning routine. Dressing for my mood is key for me. Some days I feel like being comfy and others I like to dress up more. You feel me?
Makeup time: I am fairly minimal with my makeup, but again this depends on my mood. It’s really the smile that matters anyway.
There you have it my morning self-care routine. Believe it or not, this all only takes me about one hour to do. When I take the time to actually take care of myself in the mornings my whole outlook on the day is dramatically different.
