Searching for Happiness – PT 2: Nourishing your Mind

Welcome to Part 2 of this new Searching for Happiness Series which is all about nourishing your mind and basically keeping your life on track.

Through this post, I am sharing a list of all of the things I could think of in my personal life that helps me nourish my mind.

I hope by implementing some of these lifestyle changes you can gain a little extra happiness, nourish your mind and enrich your day to day life.

Part 2: Nourishing your Mind

  1. Start Journaling: Journaling is a wonderful way to work out your thoughts and feelings, releasing them in a healthy way.
  2. Get enough sun: Sun is life! Soak in all its glory.
  3. Read a book: Reading keeps your mind sharp, helps you continue to learn, helps you empathize with others and keeps your imagination active. Check out these books for a place to start 3 Books about Women that Every Woman Should Read.
  4. Learn something new: A new language, to sew, take a cooking class, a writing class, whatever you may be curious about. Learning new things is one of the best parts of life and keeps your mind curious!
  5. Do puzzles: Keep that brain active, and reduce stress by trying out a puzzle of your choice. I am currently doing a Harry Potter one which is the BEST!
  6. Try to work less: The happiest places in the world are the ones that work the least, yup fact! Don’t work your life away, stand up to your boss, stand up to your family and throw away the guilt! Check out this article if you need extra convincing.
  7. Go for a drive: Grab a coffee, turn on your favorite CD and go for a solo sunset drive, it is a great way to think.
  8. Start making goals: Check out Searching for Happiness – Goals.
  9. Get a planner: Organizing your life will reduce stress and help you plan for all of the wonderful activities you want to try.
  10. Watch your favorite movie: Another stress buster, watching your favorite movies inspire, motivate and can make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  11. Re-read your favorite book: Same goes for reading your favorite books, reconnect with your favorite characters and appreciate the lessons learned all over again.
  12. Shut the worry down: The more you allow yourself to worry the more you will worry. Shut it down through awareness. You will then allow for more positive feelings to grow.
  13. Decrease your social media use: One good reason to do this is it gives you more time to be in the moment and try some of the things on this list. Also, social media has been linked to depression. Check out this article explaining a little on why.
  14. Cut down on the news you watch: It is important to stay in the loop but don’t bombard yourself with all the negativity in the world. There will always be bad news, that does not mean you have a bad life.
  15. Play board games: Playing board games can be a load of fun and is a great problem-solving activity.
  16. Read a self-help book: Wheather you think you need it or not. Check out my favorites in this post Searching for Happiness – Self Love Books
  17. Create a bucket list: What are you searching for? What do you want out of life? How can you be happy if you don’t even know?
  18. Soak up those who inspire you: Read, watch and learn from those who inspire you to connect you with those traits within. Check out some people who inspire me in this post – Three Inspirational Women you Should Get to Know This Year.
  19. Try a brain exercise program: Search the internet for all kinds of great programs that help keep your mind sharp, like luminosity. 
  20. Do some crossword puzzles: Doing crosswords can help decrease the risk of dementia and increase your verbal skills to name a few benefits.
  21. Try some trivia: Another great game that helps keep your brain sharp.
  22. Watch some documentaries: Netflix has a plethora of great documentaries that are amazing. It is so important to constantly learn about new topics and perspectives.
  23. Do some crafts: Check out this article explaining why crafting is great for your brain. Why Crafting is Great for your Brain
  24. Share your opinion: It is important to engage in meaningful conversations with people in your life. Why not have a little debate every now and then?
  25. Meet new people: Learn about new people from different walks of life or cultures.

    I’ve actually considered making a bucket list but since I rarely leave the house it would be pretty boring. “Get dinner dishes done immediately.” “Lie on couch through an entire movie.” lol

      haha there is nothing wrong with that! The little things are what makes life! Many of the items on my bucket list would be along the same lines. You wont see me doing any bungee jumping anytime soon 🙂

    Love these tips! I always find soaking up inspiration from another, usually from reading books by creatives or simply chatting with a friend whom you can bounce ideas off of is helpful. Great post!

      I hope some of these things can help with that. I think it is really a combination of many things that help with anxiety but what has worked most for me has been knowing my body and limits and what works to calm me. 🙂
