The days are growing shorter, and the slightest winter chill is creeping through the air. I think it’s safe to say that we are in the thick of the fall season. And a rather romantic season it is. I mean think about it, bundling up together on a cozy evening or falling in love while enjoying the mystical romance set on a theme of red, orange and yellow colors. It’s perfection, simply romantic perfection.
Mushy sentiments aside, I think we can agree that fall is the Goldilocks time of the year for many activities. Not to hot, not to cold. And dates are no exception. So its time to get out there and take advantage of the romance that mother nature is provides you. Share the love by spending time with your sweetheart frolicking in the leaves because fall is full of opportunities for charming dates that cost next to nothing. Need some ideas? Not to worry I have done the research and have you covered.
1.Enjoy an early evening stroll in the park
Grab a hot beverage from your favorite coffee shop, get it to go and head to the park to take in nature in it’s all mighty beauty. Taking a leisurely stroll gets your endorphins moving, making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And seeing the pretty leaves, feeding some ducks or snapping some cute pictures is a great way to spend an afternoon and create some fall memories.
2. Visit the local farmers market
Why not head to the local farmers market and check out the fresh locally grown food? As an extra step, you could find a new recipe you would like to try then gather the fresh veggies needed while at the market. Go home and cook up a meal together, to complete the perfect day. May I suggest finding a festive recipe in this affordable cookbook? Fall Vegetables, is packed with great ideas.
3. Carve a pumpkin together
This is a classic fall date idea, but for good reason. Carving a pumpkin together inspires teamwork and festive fun. I like to throw on a cheesy slasher flick while carving to really get into the spirit.
4. Make homemade Halloween costumes
If done correctly this can totally qualify as a date. If you know that you will be going to a Halloween party then be proactive, instead of buying an overpriced prepackaged costume, have a bit of fun with it.
First decide what you would like to dress up as, secondly head to the thrift shop and then head home for a creative night in. Turn on some music or watch a movie that will get you into the spirit of the costume. If creating a zombie costume, turn on something like The Night of the Living Dead for inspiration. And there you have it a cute date, and a productive evening in.
5. Take a Sunday Drive out of town
Fall is a great time to travel outside of the city, before the winter snow makes this type of day dangerous. Bring your favorite old school cd, turn it up and just drive, maybe have lunch at some out of the way spot somewhere along the way. Either way you’re in for a great day.
6. Scary movie marathon
What about those not so nice fall days? Well a movie marathon shall fix all that ails. I personally would suggest some spooky movies like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, or Scream. These movies are the perfect level of scary cheesiness, making for a great cuddle up kind of evening. Besides who doesn’t love the nostalgia of the 90’s?
7. Pizza and bowling
This makes for a neat double date alternative to dinner and a movie. Ask another couple to join you for pizza a few beer and a competitive game.
8. Try doing a puzzle
Sound boring? You would be surprised. Give it a try! It’s fun, I promise!
Many bookstores and online stores like Amazon, have loads of puzzle, like this 1000-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle. Myself and my boyfriend actually do these all the time, and I am not ashamed to say it is awesome!
9. Go to free night at a local museum
The local museum in in my town offers free admission to the public every Wednesday night. Taking a evening to explore local history and new exhibitions is a lovely way to spend a evening. Learning and enriching your minds together.
Try and find out if your town offers anything like this.
10. Go on a picnic
Can you think of a better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon? Fill your thermos with hot tea, make some sandwiches, and throw on your coziest fall sweater and scarf because this date has all the elements to create the perfect romantic day.
11. Have one last outdoor fire before winter
Bundle up, grab the smores and head outside in the crisp night to have a bonfire. You may aswell take advantage of the weather before it becomes too cold outside. Am I right?
12. Go for a bike ride
If you don’t own a bike then I would recommend renting some for a day and hitting some trails. Or take a leisurely cruise through your town. Take in the fresh fall air, all while getting some exercise together.
13. Hunt for the perfect sunset
Here on the east coast of Canada we are blessed with some beautiful sunsets during fall that just scream “look at me!” So jump in the car, drive to a scenic lookout and watch the sun slip beyond the horizon with your love. Simple and sweet.
14. Bundle up and look at the stars
Do you have a truck? Gab some thick fuzzy blankets and head out of town to get a good look at the crisp fall night sky. You can download many stargazing apps for free, and bundle up.
15. Explore a corn field maze
Many towns have this fun fall activity set up during the October month. And if your town has a corn field maze you should check it out. It’s not just for kids, I swear.
16. Have a old school video game night
Break out the old Nintendo and get competitive over a good old fashioned game of Mario kart. I am sure any old video game will do, but I personally recommend the old classics. I just can’t let go of the past I guess, what can I say I am a 90’s kid through and through.
17. Go on a coffee date
When I ask my single friends what they prefer doing on a first date they usually say. “Maybe grab a coffee” it seems as though “the coffee date” has become extremely popular nowadays, requiring a great low key atmosphere to talk and get to know someone. So why not do it every now and then with your boyfriend or girlfriend? You don’t need to be on a first date to get to know each other a little better. Oh and it is pumpkin spice latte season, so it’s really a two birds one stone kind of thing. Bonus!
